January 1st. A rather damp but mild start to the New
Year. Remaining cloudy but dry, windy overnight gusting to 24mph WSW
@ 03.30hrs. 2nd January. The day starting cloudy and
damp. Winds increasing from the east and becoming colder during the morning.
By afternoon the puddles of water in the lanes were becoming frozen,
the lazy cold wind blew through you rather than round you, with a wind
chill of -7c @ 19.30hrs. Temp high 5.1c @ 10.00hrs, temp low -0.4c @
23.59hrs.

3rd. Windy overnight gusting to force
7 ESE at 02.30hrs. Windchill to -7.8c @ 06.00hrs with a wind speed
of 26mph ESE, temp -1.8c at same time. Remaining cold throughout the
day with winds decreasing but the windchill remaining around -6c. Pressure

January Cold overnight with a ground frost by morning and
w/chill of -2.1c @ 06.00hrs with a SSE wind. Wind moving round to the
west and increasing to 25mph at 13.30hrs, bringing an increase in temperature
to 5.4c. Clouding over during the day with rain showers from 13.30hrs
to 16.00hrs. Further light rain showers during the evening. Temp high
5.4c @ 13.30hrs, temp low -1.3c @ 06.00hrs 5th
January A mainly cloudy day but remaining dry except for a
light shower at 05.30hr. Feeling cold in the westerly wind with a w/chill
around 1.5c during daylight hours. Skies clearing during the evening.

skies overnight with some sunny periods during the morning. Clouding
up during the afternoon, with rain heavy at times from 17.00hrs into
the evening. Winds moving round to the east with a w/chill of 0.5c
@ 18.30hrs. Pressure dropping quickly with winds increasing and turning
westerly to gale force 8 by 21.30hrs, with heavy rain. Temp high 7.7c
@ 21.30hrs, temp low 3.2c @ 17.30hrs. 3.4mm rain.
 7th
January Winds continuing to increase during the night to
gale force 9 by 03.30hrs, and heavy rain with a rain rate of 4.4mm,
at same time. We were woken at 03.30hrs with howling winds and rain
hammering at the windows. Switching the outside lights on we could
see no distance at all, due to the heavy rain being whipped up by
the gale force winds. Pressure had dropped to 988.6mb by 03.30hrs.
W/chill of -2.4c at 04.30hrs. At daylight it was evident that the
rain had fallen as snow on the peaks of the Northern Mountains with
a light covering above 2800ft. Branches had been torn from trees,
and littered the lanes. The winds reduced by 09.30hrs with skies
clearing by 10.00hrs with a few sunny intervals during the morning,
before clouds increased during the afternoon. Two Buzzard were brought
into the Centre during the morning suffering injuries which may have
been weather related. Temp high 6.2c @ 23.59hrs, temp low 3.5c @

overnight, with skies clearing around 08.30hrs. Clouding up again
by 10.30hrs with rain heavy at times, and winds quickly increasing
to gale force 9 at 11.30hrs. Rain continuing throughout day with
high winds to gale force 8. At 18.55hrs Sheet Lightening followed
by Thunder heard from the South of the Weather Station. By 20.00hrs
8.2mm of rain had fallen and the temperature had fallen to 1.5c WSW

9th
January Remaining windy overnight with gusts to 33mph
@ 03.00hrs. W/chill -2.1c @ 06.00hrs. Ice pellets evident on the
grass at dawn, and further ice pellets falling during the morning.
Skies clearing by 11.00hrs with some sunny periods. Clouding over
with further rain from 16.30hrs and winds increasing to 26mph SW
@ 18.30hrs. Pressure 994.7mb falling quickly at same time. Further
heavy rain during the evening with a rain rate of 7.2mm @ 22.30hrs,
with gusts to 33mph WSW @ 23.00hrs Total Rainfall for Day
16.2mm. Temp high 8.3c @ 00.01hrs, temp low 2.7c @ 07.00hrs. 10th
January A further 8.4mm of rainfall from 00.01hrs - 08.00hrs
with gusts to 35mph. The pressure dropped to 983mb @ 09.30hrs.
There has been flooding around the lane and local roads, with fast
running water in the streams and rivers, caused by the run off
from the fields. The rain stopped at 10.00hrs, but it remained
windy till early afternoon. Cloud clearing by 20.00hrs with temperatures
dropping to 2.5c @ 23.30hrs. During
the period, gusts of 144mph recorded by First Hydro on Snowdon.
There was flooding in Llanrwst and villages along the River Conwy,
and the A55 was closed at St Asaph due to flooding causing chaos
to motorists. The railway line between Llandudno Jnct and Blaenau
Ffestiniog was closed due to flooding. Total daily

There was evidence of light snowfalls over the Mountains down to
2800ft. Temp 2.3c @ 03.30hrs with a w/chill of 1.8c. Winds turning
northerly then easterly by 09.30hrs. Remaining dry and cold
throughout the day with some clear periods, and the temperature
hovering around 2.5c throughout the day. Temp high 3.8c @ 16.00hrs,

cold overnight, but no evidence of frost at dawn. Pressure rising
to 1000.2mb at 12.00hrs, with a noon temperature of 6.4c. The skies
clouded over after dark, with the temperature rising to 9c, and
rain from 21.00hrs. The wind increased to 27mph
by midnight. Temp high 9.1c @ 23.30hrs, temp low 1.9c @ 00.01. 13th
January Rain from 07.30hrs, and the wind increasing to
33mph @ 10.30hrs. Rain throughout the day adding to the surface

during the day, with a few clear intervals but remaining cloudy

January Clouding over during the early hours with rain
from 05.30hrs to 08.30hrs winds ENE turning Westerly by mid morning
with skies clearing by 10.30hrs. Cloud returning by 16.30hrs with
further rain. There was evidence of snowfall on the mountain peaks
with pressure dropping to 971.4mb @ 18.30hrs. Temp high 7.8c @

overnight with the temperature dipping to 2.8c @ 07.00hrs. Little
wind but a slight westerly breeze. Remaining dry with winds moving
to the east during the afternoon with temperatures remaining low
throughout the day, with some clear periods around mid day. Skies
clearing after dark with the wind moving around to the North but
remaining very light. Dry throughout the period. Temp high 7.3c

showers and heavy periods of rain from 06.00hrs. Some drier periods
during the early afternoon, followed by further rain from 16.30hrs.

windy overnight, with rain showers from 05.00hrs. Further heavy
periods of rain throughout the day, with the South Westerly wind

19th January Pressure rising, with heavy rain
at 01.00hrs, followed by further showers until 06.30hrs. Cloudy
but dry during the day, with a light NWesterly wind. Further heavy
rain showers during the evening with the wind moving round to the
SW, and strengthening to 30mph at 21.30hrs. Temp high 11.8c @ 22.00hrs,

rain overnight with winds gusting to 30mph. At daylight the lane
outside was flooded, and the small streams were a torrent of water.
The morning remained dull with further heavy showers of rain, the
rain cleared after lunch, and the skies cleared by night fall.
The winds remained light from a SWesterly direction. Temp high

January Rain
from 02.00hrs, with pressure dropping quickly, and winds increasing.
By 10.00hrs the rain stopped, but it remained cloudy with increasing
winds gusting to force 9 Swesterly at 14.30hrs. The winds decreased
and moved round to the NWest by evening with further rain and
temperatures falling to 3c @ 20.30hrs, with a windchill of -1.8c. There
are reports of some flooding in the Dyfi Valley, Machynlleth,
and the Lower Dee Valley. In the Conwy Valley the flood defence system

There was evidence of a ground frost, with the sky remaining

fresh to strong winds, a day to find sheltered spots in the garden

January Pressure remains high at 1028mb. The first
day of the year with a feeling of Spring in the air, with long
sunny periods during the morning, the birds singing, and good
visibility across to the mountains of northern Snowdonia. Skies
remaining clear after dusk with good visibilty into the night
sky. Temp high 10.1c @ 11.30hrs, temp low 5.1c @ 00.00hrs. 28th
January Another
spring like day with good periods of sunshine. With the nicer
days there has been a significant increase in bird activity,
and plenty of birdsong. Some cloud at dusk and winds increasing

January Clouding over during the early hours with
winds increasing to force 7 at mid day. Drizzle from 11.30hrs,
with periods of heavy rain during the afternoon. Low clouds

January Damp
start to the day but some clear periods by mid morning. Feeling
cold, with temperature dropping by evening with a wind chill

January Rain overnight heavy at time, with strong
winds, gusting to Storm Force 10 at 06.00hrs. Pressure dropping
during the day to 988.4mb by the evening. Further showers during
the day with ice pellets at times, but winds decreasing. Winds
increasing again by dusk with very heavy snow showers creating
blizzard conditions at times. Temperature 0.6c at 18.30hrs
with a windchill of -6c. Before dusk snowfall was evident on
the mountains of Northern Snowdonia down to 1500ft. Reports
today of sections of the M6 closed around Shap due to lorries
being blown over. The Met Office has issued
a severe weather warning for the next 24hrs for North Wales of
high winds and heavy snow showers, leading to accumulations of
up to 20cm on high ground. Temp high 7.8c @ 06.00hrs,

 1st February We have not suffered the predicted weather,
however the wind remained strong overnight to Force 9 at times. Further
heavy showers mainly of ice pellets disturbed our sleep as the pellets
rattled hard against the windows. Remaining windy throughout the day
with gusts to Force 8 SW, and cold with temp of 0.6c @ 16.00hrs with
a windchill of -5c, and further snow showers. Further snow on the mountains
down to 1200ft. With the strong winds in the mountains the snow has been
blown from the exposed ridges giving the appearance of sparse snowfall.

cold overnight with a fresh westerly wind. A few bright intervals during
the morning but clouding over by early afternoon with winds increasing
again and rain showers some heavy, with ice pellets in the gusty wind.
Winds to force 7 by 20.00hrs, remaining cloudy with the odd rain shower.

rising overnight with a few light showers, winds moving round to the
east by dawn and increasing for a few hours with gusts to force 7. Further

little wind there was evidence of a slight ground frost on the meadow

overnight becoming milder, with winds to force 7 @ 06.30hrs, and a shower

in strength and further periods of rain after 11.00hrs. Drying up late

February Signs
of an overnight ground frost, and another day of warm sunshine and
clear skies, with good visibility across to the mountains. Many of
the early flowering plants are blooming, and the grass is showing signs
of stirring into growth. Another clear night with meteor showers seen

February Another light ground frost, with temperatures increasing
to 15c @ 11.00hrs. Another spring like day with pressure rising to

clear with winds moving round to an easterly direction, feeling much
colder with a ground frost by morning. Good sunny periods during the
day with a light ESE breeze, with the frost remaining all day on north

February Pressure remaining high at 1035.2mb @ 10.30hrs, with
a heavy ground frost overnight and clear skies. Skies remaining clear
throughout the day, with good visibility across to the mountain peaks,
but poorer visibility below 2000ft, with mist in the valley bottoms
at time. Winds remaining easterly with a cold chill. Temp high 5.2c

remaining much the same with more haze across to the mountain and frost
remaining all day on north facing ground. The first lambs have appeared
at our elevation, being born into a cold but sunny landscape. Pressure

cold clear winters day, feeling warm in the sun, and a day for preparation

cold with another overnight frost, lovely sunrise with birdsong at
dawn. Remaining cold throughout the day, with frost remaining in some
of the northern facing slopes all day. A beautiful sunset, leaving
a red glow over the landscape. Another clear night with good vision

February Haze
across to the mountains, and less frost than in recent days. The compost
heap and soil in the vegetable garden remains frozen. Remaining sunny
and clear throughout the day, but more haze than of recent days. Temp

February No ground frost evident at dawn. The skies were more
cloudy than over the last nine days, but the cloud remained thin throughout
daylight hours. The cloud thickened up after dark, with some light

showers overnight and into the morning, feeling warmer than of late,
with a strengthening westerly wind. No sunshine throughout the day,

February Windy
gusting to force 7 @ 04.30hrs, with heavy rain overnight and into the
day. Remaining cloudy and windy during the day with gusts to Force

February Skies clearing by dawn with some clear intervals,
but remaining windy to force 6 at times. Pressure dropping to 993.4mb
@ 03.00hrs, before rising again during the afternoon. The first buds
are evident on the hawthorn in the hedgerow of the vegetable garden.

February Clear
overnight, although no frost was evident at dawn. Clear skies and sunshine
during the first part of the morning, but clouding up by mid day, although
remaining dry. Remaining cloudy after dark. Just after midnight
there was an earthquake centered around Market Rasen in Lincolnshire
measuring 5.2 on the Richter Scale, it was felt over many parts of
England, and reports where also received along the North Wales coast
and Angelsey. The early estimates are that some £10 million of
damage has been caused, but only one injury has been reported. This
was the largest earthquake in the UK since the one reported on the
Llyn Peninsular in 1984, that measured 5.4. Temp high 8.9c

to Force 10 at 19.00hrs recorded on my remote anemometer situated on
the hillside to the north of the weather station. Damage reported to
the roof of Venue Cymru in Llandudno, which closed the Promenade on
North Shore. Further

March Temperatures dropping to 2c @ 02.00hrs with a windchill
in the strong winds to -1.4c. Their was a shower of ice pellets @ 07.15hrs,
but remaining dry through the rest of the period. Fresh
falls of snow were evident on the mountains above 2500 feet. Remaining
cloudy throughout the morning, but skies clearing in the afternoon
to give some sunny intervals, but feeling cold in the brisk wind. Temp

March Pressure dropping quickly after midnight, with rain
showers around dawn. A
mainly cloudy day with the winds gusting to Force 7 at times, with blustery
showers and a couple of longer periods of rain around mid day. Further
showers around 18.00hrs, and remaining cloudy into the evening. Temp

skies overnight but no evidence of frost at dawn. Cloud building during
the day with some clear periods, winds increasing to Force 7 during the
later part of the day. Temp high 6.8c @ 10.00hrs, temp low 1.5c @ 19.00hrs. 10th
March. Cloudy overnight with showers of ice pellets, some
still evident on the grass at dawn. pressure dropping to 953mb @ 09.00hrs.
Severe weather was expected, but the day was mainly cloudy with the
odd shower of ice pellets. The worst of the days weather was in the
South and South West, with winds in excess of 80mph. High tides also
produced some coastal flooding in the South and South West of England.

with some clear periods overnight. Some good sunny periods during the
day, but feeling cold. Snow down to 1500ft on the mountains, with pressure
dropping. Winds increasing from mid afternoon increasing
to gale force 9 @ 20.30hrs on the hillside above the weather station.
Severe Weather Warning in place for North Wales for tonight and tomorrow
morning. Winds to Force 10 before midnight, with lots of small branches
being blown off trees, and the wind howling around the house. Temp
high 10.9c @ 12.30hrs, temp low 2.4c @ 21.30hrs. 12th
March. The
worst storm of the winter, winds remaining to Force 9 for much
of the night, and after dawn. Our power went down at around 03.30hrs
and remained off till 11.00hrs. The first time the generator has been
called into service this year. Reports of gusts to 90mph in the Capel
Curig area. Remaining windy throughout the day but the strength
reducing, some clear periods but feeling cold. Winds increasing again
to Force 8 by dark. Temp high 7.7c @ 13.00hrs, temp low 3.7c 04.00hrs. 13th
March Winds reducing after midnight with pressure rising, and
skies clearing. Some cloudy periods during the day with the odd sunny
interval but feeling cold. Heavy rain shower at 17.30hrs, and remaining

March Lovely
sunrise with clear skies, winds remaining light and turning easterly
by lunchtime. Much quieter weather than of late, a nice day to find a
sunny shaded spot in the garden. Low cloud was evident by late afternoon
to the west of the weather station, on the mountains of Northern Snowdonia.

March The winds turned to the east overnight, giving a chilled
feel to the air at day break. Cloudy start to the day, but remaining
dry till 15.00hrs when rain heavy at times started and continued into
the evening. Temp high 10.6c @ 11.00hrs, temp low 4.4c @ 23.30hrs. 16th
March The rain continued overnight, heavy and consistent. The
rain stopped at 06.30hrs, with a further shower at 09.30hrs. Remaining
cloudy with a few bright intervals during the middle of the afternoon,
feeling chilly in the easterly winds. Pressure rising quickly during
the evening as a high pressure area moved towards the UK. Temp high 6.9c
@ 14.30hrs, temp low 2.8c @ 23.00hrs. 17th
March Cold overnight with temperatures dropping to 1.2c @ 05.30hrs,
with a windchill of -1.4c in the light easterly wind. Lovely clear skies
at sunrise, and feeling warm out of the wind. Pressure rising to 1017mb
@ 12.00hrs. Remaining clear during the afternoon, with some mist across
towards to mountains. RAINFALL SO FAR THIS MONTH 40.6mm.
